Sherlock Holmes movie review
First the casting. Robert Downey Jr. as Sherlock Holmes. When I first saw this I was somewhat taken aback. I mean he hardly fit the description in the novels and short stories. Now the writers took some license with Sherlock’s personality and yet kept the main essence of the character and Downey took this and made it his own. The biggest difference is; In the books Sherlock is a perfect English Gentleman, in this movie he is a crass rogue. In the books Sherlock copes with boredom between cases with an addiction to cocaine. In this movie his own Brilliant mind feeds his delirium between cases as he seems nearly unable to control the breakneck pace of his own genius thoughts.
Jude Law as Dr. Watson. This is actually a pretty faithful portrayal of the character. Dr. Watson is a veteran of the British Army, A good doctor that has recently started a private practice and Sherlock’s best friend and roommate. He is a proper English gentleman, Brave and always ready for a fight.
Rachael McAdams as Irene Adler, “The” Lady as Holmes always referred to her, is an excellent choice. Playing the part with all the class, charm and guile from the novel.
Now some may take exception to the fight scenes in the movie, Both Holmes and Watson pulling of some nice martial arts moves, but if you’ve read the books remember that they, as any gentleman, would be well versed in fencing. In fact most gentlemen of the day carried walking sticks as much for self defense (as the fencing moves can also be used with a stick as well as a blade) as for the fashion of the day. Also, Holmes was in fact well versed in boxing as wells as jujutsu and was exceptionally strong. Of course in the books Holmes wouldn’t be caught dead engaging in “Pit Fights” let alone betting on them, but clearly this is not your father’s Holmes. The non-stop action, chase scenes, fights & explosions did not detract at all from Holmes obvious brilliance (I loved the visual style Guy Ritchie used to illustrate Holmes ability to be thinking 5, 6 or more moves ahead of his opponents). Believe me, there were plenty of his analytical deductions throughout the film to satisfy my sense of loyalty to the original incarnation. And of course the ending introduces him to his arch nemesis and sets the stage for a sequel which I eagerly await. If you are an old time Sherlock Holmes fan, see this movie, accept it on it’s own merits and you will be satisfied. If you’ve never heard of Sherlock Holmes, see this movie and you will be entertained as you might expect from any well made action/adventure film made in recent years.

The United States of Authoritarian's
The United States of Authoritarian's
Not because they are right, but because they have left us without hope; NO Rights at all. It started with education. No Child left behind; not only dumbing down the entire nation (so everyone will supposedly feel good), but so they can send everyone through the brain washing machine. Now, seizing control of health care, how long till they decide dissenters are mentally unbalanced and need medical attention (meaning given large doses of Valium to keep them quiet). Let us not forget that with control of health care, they will then also control the prescription drug companies! Meanwhile, through pure and utter connivance, they have slowly, over the course of the past 12 years, dismantled the economy so that no one will have money or power but themselves and their 'friends'. By passing laws, that would cause companies to fail, then seizing control of the industries through laws that no sane person would ever agree to. Yet 2/3 of the nation, a disproportionate amount of those, people who contribute nothing to the welfare of the nation, but instead detract from it, voted these thieves into office (strangely another large chunk of the populace who voted the thieves in are the teachers and members of bureaucracy). Why would supposedly intelligent people vote these clowns in? 150 years ago, a teacher was barely able to scratch a living; they had to work during the summer to survive. Now teachers live better and work less than any other group of individuals who 'work' for a living. Yet in 2007, US students ranked 16th out of 30 nations in Science and ranked 23rd out of 30 nations in math. Education Secretary Margaret Spellings said that the results were disappointing but that the National Math Advisory Panel and other initiatives are in motion to bolster math and science education. The ranking "speaks to what President Bush has long been advocating for: more rigor in our nation's high schools; additional resources for advanced courses to prepare students for college-level studies; and stronger math and science education," she said in a statement. The "No Child Left Behind Act" of 2001 did not permit the 4th graders the opportunity to excel at Math and Science. The few students with a chance were dragged down by the masses. The same thing will happen to the economy once the fools we put into office obtain controls over the economy. The few who could excel, and create wealth for themselves, which in turn generates wealth for the idiots in the government to "redistribute" (otherwise known as buying votes), will not exist; nor will the skills to tend to our health, our defense or the basic necessities, let alone the ability to better the human condition. As to the other half of the equation, do bureaucrats work hard? Try to get something out of a government office; it is a miracle if the work is done at all let alone correctly. Why would they do this??? Jealousy! They resent that anyone exerts more influence than they do. They are not there to strengthen the country; they are there to seize power so they live better than everyone else. They are not graded, they are not challenged, and they are not required to meet any criteria, beyond handing money to their communities. So the Barney Frank's, Robert Bird's, Jack Murtha's and Nancy Pelosi's of the nation, who would not likely have the influence in business to any level near where they are today, can live large through bribes and wield power far beyond their ability. The nation should have the ability to vote on a recall of any and all elected officials, if they degrade the nation. (Papers the past decade have been published addressing the fact that the people do not have the right to recall the morons they voted into office; this should have been a wake up call!). Instead we allow these people to protect each other. People rise up and bite the hand that feeds off of you while we still have the opportunity to do it peacefully. If the government continues to seize control of industry after industry, we will no longer be a democracy. You're children and grandchildren will live in worse conditions than did the supposedly poor slaves who were brought to this country against their will. Their unintended legacy was to leave their grandchildren and great grandchildren living much better in the land of plenty than they would have had they been left in Africa. Why does our sadly elected President require patience? Because he has finally realized that many citizens of the United States are not snowed by his rhetoric. If we get out, if we communicate to our fellow countrymen that he is a danger to our way of life, then and only then dowe stand a chance to remove the tinker toys (otherwise known as the rubber stamp congress) out from under him!!! Do not wait until it is too late, as Roman citizens did 2000 years ago, and find they no longer had a Republic, but an empire. Will our legacy to our children be that of worshiping our leaders in a nation where people were once free, or will you end the CHANGE to tyranny that this president has been allowed to enact by a do nothing Congress and Senate? In closing, we have permitted our Congressmen and Senators to hold office for FAR TO LONG. It is time to clean house, if it is not already too late. We need people in office who will sensor the president when he bypasses the checks and balances by appointing Czar's (otherwise known as the People's Commissar).

Our dwindling Constitution
Ed "The Pansy-Ass" Rendell has jumped on the gun control band wagon to try and pass a bill to take away our right to keep and bear arms. This solidifies my belief that he is now and has always been in the pocket of organized crime. If there is any justice in this world he will die from some horribly painful, incurable disease.
Now lets move on to the simpering nabobs at the federal level. Nancy "the Sow" Pelosi, Barney "Pack my Fudge" Frank, Hillery Queen of the damned" Clinton and the rest of Barak "I hate the constitution" Obama's hand picked squad of Fascist miscreants have been busy taking control of the banking institutions and auto industry as well as licking the asses of every enemy throughout the world and trying to make the U.S.A. vassal of the United Nations. The nation wide "Tea Party" was a cute way to show how the American people are fed up with over burdensome taxation. I believe large mobs with pitchforks, torches and a good supply of tar and feathers descending on the residences of these traitors in the middle of the night would be far more effective. But that's just my opinion. Thank god I still have the right to free speech. . . . for now.

Barak the Socialist
On Monday, Feb. 9th the broadcast networks forced their adoring adulation of our socialist leader on an unwilling audience. Mr. Obama tried desperately to push his stimulus (Read liberal pork) package on the public by using the tried and true tactic of fear mongering. He bellowed about the calamity sure to follow if his package is not passed and complained that others were living in the past when they tried to compare it to F.D.R.'s debacle that caused the perpetuation of the great depression 6-7 years longer than it should have lasted. Keep in mind; those that ignore history are doomed to repeat it. No financial institution should have been aided without first dismissing every senior executive from the CEO on down. Also, all citizens that file an income tax return should receive a full refund since none of the presidents appointees have to pay taxes. Since I'm not on welfare nor am I a politician, I actually have to pay for all goods and services. So how about tax breaks for businesses so they can hire more people. Tax breaks for working people so they can pay their bills and making all of societies parasites, starting with our legislators pay their own way through life.

A Great Movie
